StorageCraft - "The RPC server is unavailable"

The RPC server is unavailable - 2008 Server firewall

Scenario: 

You were installing StorageCraft  Shadowprotect on server and want to manage other server. You get the error message "The RPC server is unavailable"  when trying to connect to a new node (Server 2008 OS) in the Management View.

Why:

The Windows 2008 firewall is blocking incoming DCOM packets.

Resolution:

Disable the firewall.  Or, add an exception in the firewall for ShadowProtect.

Here are the steps to add the exception:

      1. In your search box type "wf.msc",  this will open the Windows Firewall settings.
      2. On the tree in the left panel, right click on "inbound rules" and select "New Rule...".
      3. On the rule type,  Select the "Program" radio button and hit "Next...".
      4. On the Program Page, Hit the "Browse...",  navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\StorageCraft\ShadowProtect",  select "ShadowProtectSvc.exe".  Click OK, and then Next
      5. On the Action Page, select the "Allow the connection" radio button (default setting).  Click Next.
      6. On the Profile Page, select all of the check boxes. (default settings)
      7. On the Name Page,  Type "ShadowProtect Service" in the name box.
      8. Click Finish to close the wizard.

You should now be able to connect from the management view in ShadowProtect.
